Emmy-winning Cheers actress Kirstie Alley passes away at age 71 from cancer

According to a family statement, 71-year-old actress Kirstie Alley passed away from cancer. Alley just received a cancer diagnosis and was receiving treatment at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida.She was most known for her work on the comedy series Cheers in the 1980s and 1990s.

Her children stated, “We are heartbroken to inform you that our beautiful, strong, and beloved mother has passed away”.

“To all of our friends, near and distant, anywhere in the world… We regret to notify you that our extraordinary, courageous, and beloved mother passed away after a struggle with cancer, which was just recently detected. She fought valiantly while surrounded by her closest family members, leaving us with little doubt about her unending love of life and whatever adventures lie ahead. She was a legendary actress, but she was an even better mother and grandma.

Bob Alley, who had the same name as her father through coincidence, and Alley were married from 1970 to 1977.

They met in high school.  On December 22, 1983, Parker Stevenson, an actor, and Alley got married.  

After miscarrying, the couple adopted son William “True” one week after his birth on October 5, 1992, and daughter Lillie in 1995. The couple divorced in 1997.  After her son William had a son of his own in 2016, Alley became a grandmother. 

In Islesboro, Maine, Alley owned the Mitchell Cottage, formerly known as the Islesboro Inn, from 1991 to 2020. It had 21 bedrooms.

Her breakthrough role was Rebecca Howe in the NBC sitcom Cheers (1987–1993), for which she won a Golden Globe in 1991 and an Emmy Award. She appeared in the sitcom Veronica’s Closet from 1997 to 2000, garnering more Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.

Robert Deal Alley, who ran a lumber firm, and Lillian Alley welcomed actress Kirstie Alley into the world in Wichita, Kansas. Colette and Craig were her two siblings. Alley graduated from Wichita Southeast High School in 1969. After her sophomore year, she left Kansas State University, which she had been attending.

Alley made a 1979 appearance as a contestant on the game programme Match Game after relocating to Los Angeles to study Scientology and work as an interior designer.

She triumphed in both rounds, taking home $500 in the first and $5500 in the second. In 1980, she also made an appearance on the game programme Password Plus.

She identified herself as an interior designer on both shows.

Her mother was killed in a car accident with a drunk driver in 1981, and her father was gravely hurt.

Politics participation

Alley tweeted in August 2015 that she would not be backing the Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election. On April 8, 2016, Alley tweeted her support for Republicans Donald Trump and Rudy Giuliani. Alley

She declared in October 2020 that she had supported Trump in 2016 and would do so again in 2020 because “he’s NOT a politician.” Additionally, she supported Republican John James in Michigan’s 2020 Senate race.
