United States Senator Bernie Sanders has been involved in American politics for a number of years. He was raised in a working-class family and was born in Brooklyn, New York, on September 8, 1941.Sanders studied at the University of Chicago, where he became involved in the Young People’s Socialist League and the civil rights struggle.
In 1990, Sanders was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he served for 16 years. He was then elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006, and has been re-elected three times since then.
